Dan Dan Sydney shuts its doors, enters liquidation

Pyrmont favourite Dan Dan Sydney has closed and entered voluntary liquidation, adding another casualty to Sydney’s pressured dining scene.

An ASIC notice published on October 8 confirms the company has been wound up. “Notice is given that at a general meeting of the members of the Company held on 07 October 2025, it was resolved that the Company be wound up and that Nicholas Charlwood be appointed liquidator,” the statement read. The owners did not respond to requests for comment.

Located at 1/21 Harris Street, the venue’s social channels have gone quiet—its most recent Instagram post is dated July 16. Google now lists the restaurant as “permanently closed,” although the website is still live.

Dan Dan was the latest project from industry veterans Bobby Volcevski and Andrew Duncan, who together bring more than four decades of experience and previously teamed up on Tinys and Back Row West. Marketed as a Pan-Asian concept informed by “global culinary adventures,” the restaurant aimed to deliver a “distinctive dining experience in Pyrmont.” The menu leaned into polished takes on regional staples—think delicate sashimi, aromatic curries and sizzling stir-fries—backed by a cocktail program that played with twists on the classics.

The opening generated strong local interest and the venue quickly became a Pyrmont hotspot. But, in line with broader headwinds of rising costs and shifting consumer demand, momentum didn’t last.

Dan Dan’s closure follows a string of recent shocks for hospitality operators. It lands a week after tapas venue Born by Tapavino appointed a restructuring practitioner while continuing to trade, and about three months after Barangaroo’s Nola Smokehouse and Bar shut without advance notice. For a precinct once pitched as delivering an “experience unlike any other,” the loss of Dan Dan is another sobering sign of the pressures facing Sydney restaurants.
