Two injured at Frenchville Sports Club after alleged stabbing
A busy Tuesday at North Rockhampton’s Frenchville Sports Club was interrupted by a frightening incident, with police arresting a man after two people were wounded.
Officers were called to the Eldon Street venue just before 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 14, following reports of a stabbing. On arrival, emergency crews found a 39-year-old man with a stab wound, while a 21-year-old man inside the club had minor lacerations.
A 21-year-old Park Avenue man was taken into custody nearby, and police quickly declared a crime scene at the popular corner site of Berserker and Clifton Streets. Multiple paramedic units, uniformed officers and detectives attended, and crime scene tape went up around the premises as inquiries got underway.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said officers had received reports of a wounding.
The sudden police presence caused understandable confusion among staff, patrons and tradespeople working on the club’s roof as they tried to piece together what had unfolded.
By around 3:00pm, six police vehicles remained at the scene and a tradie’s ute was inside the cordoned area.
Investigations are continuing.
