The Hunger Project Australia launches World Food Month campaign to combat global hunger

This World Food Month, The Hunger Project Australia is launching its Every Bite Counts campaign, partnering with restaurants, cafes and takeaway apps across the country to help create a world without hunger.

With 1 in 12 people globally going hungry every day – and women and children the most affected – The Hunger Project's latest initiative demonstrates how collective action from Australia's food industry can drive meaningful change in communities across Africa, India, Bangladesh and Mexico.

"Every meal we enjoy is a reminder that 673 million people don’t have the same privilege," said Philippe Magid, CEO of The Hunger Project Australia.

"Through our Every Bite Counts campaign, we're showing how Australian businesses can be part of the solution to global hunger, while engaging their customers and teams in creating positive social impact."

Participating businesses dedicate a portion of their October revenue to support The Hunger Project's community-led programs focused on nutrition training, climate-resilient farming, and building local food security. The Hunger Project addresses the complex drivers of hunger, from gender inequality and confl ict to climate change.

Recent data from The Hunger Project shows their nutrition programs are delivering tangible results. Over 31,000 community partners were trained in nutrition practices last year, with 9 out of 10 participants increasing the number of healthy meals consumed by their families, and recording an overall 20% reduction in hunger in the communities in which they work.

"The scale of world hunger can feel overwhelming, but collective action creates real change," said Magid. "By making every bite count, Australian businesses and their customers become part of empowering communities to build sustainable solutions that break the cycle of hunger and poverty for generations."
