Wayne Bayfield appointed LMG chairman

The 2012 LMG Conference concluded in New York City with a strong business session followed by a gala dinner at the historic Gotham Hall on Broadway.

Earlier in the conference Wayne Bayfield also announced to delegates his appointment as the new chairman of LMG, a position previously held by his father, Neville Bayfield, who passed away recently.

The final business day saw Nielsen president Steve Hasker present a snapshot of USA media consumption that revealed some interesting trends.

Hasker said the meteoric rise of social media and internet access on mobile platforms brings with it challenges for marketers.

"There is no clear advertising medium for advertisers on a mobile device as yet," he said.

Likewise, he said that while Facebook is the first media device that has truly gone global, it has not yet created a successful advertising model.

He said Facebook is more powerful "if your friend 'likes' Coke than if Coke advertises that Coke 'likes' Coke".

A full wrap up of the 2012 LMG conference will appear in the November issue of National Liquor News.
