Glass thief comes clean with hilarious confession
A mysterious package sent to an Enmore Road cocktail venue and addressed simply to “the manager” delivered a pleasant surprise to the managers of the popular bar.
Inside the package were two martini glasses and a Christmas card carrying a handwritten confession that read:
“Got drunk. Stole these. Feel bad. Want to be free.”
The Bar Planet team in Newtown immediately recognised the glasses. However, rather than being upset, they embraced the humour of the situation and absolved the anonymous thief, declaring the guest was forgiven — and “loved” by the venue.
A spokesperson for the Mucho Group, which owns Bar Planet, told news.com.au: “We’ve all been there, light fingered and two martinis deep. The thrill of the crime and the guilt of the realisation. This must happen at least once a week down at Bar Planet. A few glasses, a decoration, a tea light candle are gone under a jacket or in a handbag.”
The spokesperson said the team felt mixed emotions when items left the venue.
“Part of us is sad to lose our precious items but the other part of us is joyful that each time a martini is sipped at home they’ll remember the night they spent with us and feel crippling shame.”
When the package turned up, however, the bar welcomed the gesture, describing it as a sign of someone “learning and growing from their naughtiness.”
“I hope they are finally able to sleep at night. We have absolved their guilt and welcome them back with open arms and a cold can of lager,” the spokesperson said.
And in a final piece of tongue-in-cheek advice, they added: “The shame will eat you alive but if you do steal a martini glass keep it in the freezer and next time you drink out of it you will feel even fancier.”
