Suspicious fire rips through beachside eatery in Adelaide

A late-night fire has left a popular beachside eatery in Adelaide’s west badly damaged, with police treating the incident as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to Al Sultan Restaurant & Cafe Grange just after midnight on Thursday. The Jetty Street venue – which has previously traded as Lezzet Restaurant and Cafe and, before that, Coastal Delicatessen – is part of a small strip that also includes a hairdresser and physiotherapy clinic, right on the corner with Military Road.

Fire crews managed to contain the blaze before it spread further, but damage was visible the next morning. Smashed glass and burnt debris were scattered inside, while the smoke-blackened awning out front hinted at the intensity of the fire.

Wooden boards have since been installed to cover broken windows.

The neighbouring businesses, including Physio @ Grange, lost power until electricians restored it around 8:30 am. Detectives were seen speaking with nearby shop owners as investigations got underway.

Police are asking locals to come forward with any CCTV, dashcam footage, or information that could help. They can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
While no one was injured, the incident has rattled the Grange community and reignited concerns about suspicious fires hitting small businesses.
