De Angelis family sells Bath Arms Hotel in $43M deal amid pub sales surge

Sydney’s pub scene has clocked another major deal, with the De Angelis family confirming the sale of the Bath Arms Hotel in Burwood for about $43 million. The buyer hasn’t been named, but the transaction adds to a run of big-ticket pub sales in recent weeks.

The Bath Arms has plenty going for it. Built in 1834, the venue sits next to the future Burwood North metro station and pulls in about $8 million a year across its bar, bistro, gaming and accommodation. It runs until 3am, houses 30 poker machines and 16 rooms, and even survived a serious fire last October that saw 20 people evacuated.

Peter De Angelis said DHI Hotels had reviewed its portfolio and “determined to reshape our stable of hotels and focus time and financial capital more liberally towards greenfield projects”.

HTL Property brokered the deal. Andrew Jolliffe noted: “Non-electronic gaming machine revenue performance is underpinning positive system growth across the greater Sydney hotel market.”

Dan Dragicevich added: “We’re on record predicting elevated transactional activity over the course of the second half of the year as supply constraints intersect with strong trading conditions and further easing of interest rates.”

The De Angelis portfolio includes Edmondson Park Tavern, Moorebank Hotel, Hume Highway Hotel and Raby Rose.

Recent weeks have also seen Bill Young’s $50 million buy of Griffith’s Gem Hotel and the $47 million sale of Terrigal Hotel.
