Boathouse Group gets green light for $16M Terrey Hills restaurant project
The Boathouse Group has been approved to build a new $16 million dining venue on Sydney’s northern beaches, expanding its well-known hospitality footprint across New South Wales.
Dubbed “The Farmhouse”, the new restaurant will be on a semi-rural site in Terrey Hills and will seat up to 594 patrons. The Sydney North Planning Panel recently approved the scaled-down development, which originally proposed three separate eateries and a larger capacity.
The new plans feature a single restaurant building with outdoor dining options, 211 car parks, a private dining room, a children’s play area and a lawn space. A small stage is also planned for ambient live music from midday to 10pm.
“The final proposal is a substantial downsizing of the original application with resultant reduction of impacts on the site, neighbours and environment,” the panel said in its decision.
Of the 43 public submissions on the original plan, 22 supported it while 21 opposed. Some community groups backed the job opportunities the project would bring, while others raised concerns about traffic, noise and parking.
Terrey Hills Progress Association president Paul Davenport wrote that noise from events could have a “potentially adverse impact on residents in this area, particularly if weddings and other functions are permitted at these locations”.
Now owned by property developers Ben and Jono Isaac, the Boathouse Group operates 12 venues across NSW, including Manly Pavilion, Barrenjoey House and The Boathouse Shelly Beach. They purchased the Terrey Hills site for $9.8 million in 2022.
