Stuyvesant’s House hits the market after 60+ years of family hospitality
RWC Sydney North is proudly launching 45 Alexander Street, Crows Nest for sale via public auction, marking the first time this property has been offered in over 60 years.
Since 1961, Stuyvesant’s House has been a beloved fixture of Sydney’s dining scene, serving up traditional German cuisine paired with one of the most impressive wine cellars in the country.
The restaurant, owned and operated by legendary restaurateur Rudi Dietz, has become an institution, renowned not only for its cuisine but for a cellar that boasts thousands of perfectly stored wines, some dating back over half a century.
With retirement now calling, Rudi is saying farewell to his life’s work, leaving behind a rich legacy and a unique property in one of the Lower North Shore’s most vibrant commercial hubs.
“This is more than a commercial property, it’s a Sydney icon,” said Scott Stephens, RWC Sydney North’s Director.
“Stuyvesant’s House has brought people together through incredible food and wine for over six decades. The story behind this building is one of family, passion, and tradition. It’s been a second home to Rudi and a second dining room for generations of loyal customers.”
Rudi Dietz took over the restaurant in 1973, just over a decade after it first opened under Dutch ownership. He brought with him a deep love for authentic German hospitality.
“They've poured their heart into every plate and every bottle they've served," Mr Stephens said.
Located in the heart of Crows Nest, opposite Woolworths and a council car park, the property occupies approximately 221 sqm land parcel with a 347 sqm internal area and an 85 sqm cellar.
Zoned for MU1 Mixed Use, the site offers development potential (STCA) as well as strong investment appeal, with an estimated gross income of $220,000 per annum + GST.
Additional features include rear-lane access via Alexander Lane and undercover parking. The property’s prime location - just 500m from the upcoming Crows Nest Metro Station and minutes from Sydney’s CBD - adds to its future potential.
“The opportunity here is immense,” said Mr Stephens.
“Whether a restaurateur, investor, or developer, the buyer of 45 Alexander Street won’t just be acquiring a commercial asset, they’ll be taking on a slice of Sydney’s living history.”
The auction will take place on 24 June 2025, unless sold prior.
