A man has been jailed after threatening a publican and firing a gun at him.
Gregory John Taylor will serve a three-year, backdated sentence, making him eligible for parole in October this year.

Taylor, who was on meth at the time of the incident, was sentenced in the Perth District Court after pleading guilty to six charges over a violent incident at The Mogumber Hub on April 19 last year.

After the farmhand was kicked out of the pub following an argument with the publican, Taylor went home and asked his boss for some ammunition and his .22 rifle to shoot kangaroos.

Taylor’s boss gave him the gun and ammunition, despite the defendant not being licenced. He returned to the pub with the gun, found the publican hiding under a kitchen bench, then crouched down and pointed the gun at her, threatened to kill her.

Another man entered the kitchen to try to defuse the situation, but Taylor fired a bullet into the floor and pushed the man, before giving him the gun and fleeing the scene.

In his judgement, Judge Mark Ritter said “The rifle was pointed to her at close range, and you threatened her.

“You should have stayed away. Instead, you made a decision to return and terrify the people at The Hub.”

Ritter described Taylor’s actions as premeditated and terrifying for the publican.
