In a surprising development, a 19-year-old man in Queensland has allegedly surrendered to authorities and even shared a drink with the owner of a hotel he is accused of robbing.

Caleb Dixon is accused of raiding the Toobeah Hotel's till on Tuesday morning.

His decision to come forward reportedly followed the widespread circulation of his image and name on social media. In a video statement, Dixon expressed regret, stating, "I had a few too many beers, honestly, it was just random as, shouldn't have been done. I'm not like that at all."

CCTV footage reportedly shows Dixon and an accomplice, both wearing Akubra-style hats and carrying a crowbar, entering the hotel. Authorities allege that up to $6000 worth of alcohol, cigarettes, and cash were taken. Dixon has reportedly promised to return the stolen goods.

Toobeah Hotel Motel owner Michael Offerdahl said it was “great to see some remorse”.

"He said they locked it when they left, so I thought that was pretty nice of him, I suppose." Reflecting on the alleged crime, Offerdahl noted, "The boys just didn't have a plan. It was just really silly what they were obviously doing."

Dixon has since been charged in connection with the incident and is scheduled to appear in court next month. Police are continuing their efforts to locate and speak with his alleged accomplice.

The Toobeah Hotel was one of two outback Queensland hotels that were hit in overnight break-ins.

Police are investigating after the Railway Hotel on Herbert Street in Goondiwindi was allegedly targeted around 12:50 am on Tuesday. According to reports, the pair broke into a storage container and stole a carton of beer.

Less than an hour later, at approximately 1:30 am, the Toobeah Hotel was also allegedly targeted.
