A man will face court after firing a rifle in a Western Australian pub.

A 41-year-old man is alleged to have entered the Mogumber Hub on Bindoon-Moora Road armed with a rifle at about 8:30pm. He is accused of threatening three staff members before firing a shot into the ground.

He is further accused of assaulting a staff member who tried to intervene.

A significant police operation ensued and included resources from the police air wing and Tactical Response Group (TRG).

The man was arrested just before 11pm by TRG officers in nearby New Norcia and has been charged with 17 offences, including three counts each of threatening to kill and deprivation of liberty.

WA Premier Roger Cook said, "It must've been incredibly stressful and distressing for the people involved, the members of the staff at that pub, but also just the other patrons," he said.

"This is an extraordinary event and I'm so pleased that the police were able to respond as quickly as they did."

The man did not apply for bail when he faced the Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday.

He is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court again next month.
