NSW country pub attacked by knife-wielding bandits

A NSW country pub came under siege when two men armed with a machete and a knife tried to rob the venue.

Police were called to the pub yesterday evening after reports were made of an armed robbery taking place.

Police are yet to track down the offenders.

"As an employee walked in, both males exited the business and entered a white vehicle, driven by a third male, parked out front," NSW Police said.

"They drove away from the location."

The attack came just hours after NSW Premier Chris Minns and the police commissioner were there to launch youth crime prevention program Operation Pathfinder with a group of NRL players including Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker, in Moree.

Youth crime in the area was affecting local businesses, with the town seeing an increase in car thefts, home invasions and robberies.

Operation Pathfinder is the brainchild of Rugby league boss Peter V'landys and looks to offer at-risk youth mentorships with NRL players, sports clinics and trips to Sydney to experience games and training.

The NSW government is also looking to tighten bail laws to help stop repeat offending.

"We know we need a major intervention but initiatives like this offer hope and provide an alternative," Minns said.
