One punch attack kills rugby fan at sports bar

A man has died after an alleged one punch attack in a north Brisbane sport bar on Wednesday night, not long after the State of Origin decider ended.

The man has been identified as 49-year-old Luke Kenworthy.

Last Wednesday, police were called to the Sundowner Hotel in Caboolture just after 10pm, responding to reports of a fight between two men.

It's alleged the two men involved in the altercation were not known to each other.

Mr Kenworthy fell backwards after being punched in the face and hit his head on the concrete outside the pub.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and started CPR but he died at the scene 30 minutes later.

It's believed Mr Kenworthy was at the pub to watch State of Origin and had just seen Queensland win.

The incident is believed to have happened in front of Mr Kenworthy’s partner who was heard screaming 'baby, I love you', before being taken home by police.

A 29-year-old man from Caboolture was taken into custody after being found on Pasturage Road at 11.40pm.

He was due to face the Caboolture Magistrates Court last Thursday and has been charged with unlawful striking causing death.
