Geelong CBD café closes without warning

A Geelong CBD cafe closed its doors last week without warning, with reports the owner walked away from the business about 14 days ago.

The long-standing Cafe Rio has seen three owners over the past 10 years, with another tenant set to open a new business from the site.

The closure follows news of the closure of the Armageddon Cake Dessert Bar this week, with 20 staff to lose their jobs.

Geelong Chamber of Commerce CEO Ben Flynn said businesses needed to provide “superior customer service” if they want to flourish.

“We are finding generally Geelong is thriving for small business but there are some pockets not going well as others,” he told the Geelong Advertiser.

“Markets are always evolving constantly and change needs to be a constant in business to be able to take advantage of opportunities as they come.”
