Cradle Mountain hotel gets greenlight

A new boutique accommodation offering at Cradle Mountain in Tasmania will begin accepting guests next year after being given the green light by the Kentish Council.

Located on the edge of the Cradle Mountain National Park area, Our Cradle will offer 62 luxury rooms that will provide an “intimate view” of the mountain.

The development will also feature private walking tracks around the property and stargazing facilities.

Simon McDermott, of McDermott coaches, partnered with S Group for the development.

“It’s fantastic to have the received the full support of the Kentish Council and I’d like to thank the public for championing this development,” he told the Examiner

“Our Cradle will contribute greatly to tourist numbers and employment in the local areas, as well as continue to put Tasmania on the map for premium tourism experiences.”

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania CEO Luke Martin said the approval is “a shot in the arm” for the World Heritage Area’s master plan and hopes it will spur more investment in the area.

S Group director Tara Howell said the approval was “a major milestone for the project”.

“Considering the development’s proximity to the Cradle Mountain National Park, it is a sensitive area and it has been our intention all along to respect the place and celebrate the untouched essence of Cradle Mountain,” she said.

Completion of the development is slated for 2020.
