Coffee Club chef on trial after brawl left his boss ‘spitting teeth’
A Coffee Club chef on the Gold Coast is standing trial for a drunken brawl with his boss that saw him break his jaw.
Peter Till is facing one count of grievous bodily harm for an incident that saw head chef Reece Pacey suffer a broken jaw and knocked out teeth. Till denies the allegations, saying that Pacey got the injuries from a drunken fall.
The duo were drinking with Pacey’s wife Ez, who is the Coffee Club manager, at Eddie’s Grub House in Coolangatta when the incident happened.
Pacey said Till put a hand on the back of his neck just before the attack. However, Till maintained he put his hand on Pacey’s back to get his attention to ask for his car keys back as his partner arrived to pick him up.
Pacey alleges he was punched in the face “three or four” times and recalled “spitting teeth” during another altercation near a McDonald’s.
Till said the fight was started by Pacey and went “both ways” and described having his crucifix necklace broken and phone destroyed by Pacey.
“I remember he fell over,” Till said. “Honest to God, I was not the aggressor. There wasn’t any blood that night.”
Till no longer works at the Tweed Heads cafe.
