Jerry Schwartz planning regular sea plane charter linking Newcastle and Sydney

Dr Jerry Schwartz is planning to launch regular seaplane charter flights between Newcastle and Sydney as early as April.

Schwartz, who owns the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, says he wants to run regular flights from Cessnock to Newcastle harbour, and then Sydney.

The charter service, named Blue Sky Airways, will use a seven-seat amphibious de Havilland Canada Beaver aircraft.

“If there is demand, then we will have direct services from Cessnock to Sydney Harbour,” Dr Schwartz told the Newcastle Herald.

“There is a need for a short (and scenic) means of communication between Sydney and Newcastle and the Hunter.

“This fits in with my hotels, and from a personal point of view will enable me to go more frequently to these areas.”

Schwartz said increased demand for conferences and concerts at his hotel properties in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley would allow them to add more services.
