Adelaide heatwave sees pub offer free beer
A pub in Adelaide’s Elizabeth North has found a novel way to beat the heat, offering free beer if the temperature goes above 45C.
The Red Lion Hotel started their “beer-o-meter” last March, with beer prices falling as the mercury rises. Above 40C, the price of a beer drops to $3. Above 42C and the beer is $1. Once the temperature goes over 45C it’s free.
“The phones have been going mad with people ringing to verify it’s true,” publican Stephen Firth told The Advertiser. ”They can’t believe we are doing it.”
With the mercury rising this week the pub was being tested. On Wednesday afternoon they had run out of glasses and were serving schooners.
Elizabeth is forecast to hit 45C today.
