Rockpool Dining Group back pay workers $1.6 million

The Rockpool Dining Group will fork out $1.6 million in back pay to workers after finding payroll irregularities during the 2017-18 financial year audit.

The restaurant chain fronted by chef Neil Perry says it will process the payments “immediately”, adding that it is "keen to resolve" its payroll issues.

Employing more than 2400 people Rockpool manages a payroll of about $100 million.

"We are now notifying eligible employees of their personal outcomes, and will begin processing payments immediately," Rockpool said in a statement.

"We will separately be reaching out to former employees in the coming days."

The statement said payroll issues involving multiple shifts, sites and rosters posed "an industry-wide challenge", but one that it is “keen to resolve".

"Like many businesses in the restaurant industry, the Group has had to work hard to replace and modernise legacy systems and procedures and that work continues," it said.
