Darby’s Fresh Bake shuts up shop
Darby’s Fresh Bake has closed its 27 stores in New South Wales after battling declining sales.
Established in 1969, the business, which sold a range of baked goods, including pies and cakes, fell into administration in March but was given a reprieve when owner Victor De Vries gained back control of the business subject to a Deed of Company Arrangement.
Bradd Morelli, of administrators Jirsch Sutherland, says the company will likely be wound up, with debts of around $1 million to creditors, the largest of which is the Australian Tax Office. The business has no assets and operated through lease arrangements.
A meeting of creditors will take place in two weeks.
