Michelin starred chef comes to Brisbane

Brisbane’s fine dining scene continues to develop with a Michelin-star chef from Singapore teaming up with Brisbane and Gold Coast restaurateurs for a new venture.

The plan is to create a fine-dining destination overlooking the Brisbane River.

The name of the restaurant at this stage has not been revealed but there is no doubt about the location.

The 788-square-metre restaurant is to be located on the first floor at Brisbane Quarter overlooking the Brisbane River.

It’s a restaurant that will   take traditional Indian preparation methods and blend them with flavours from Australia.

Michelin-starred chef Manjunath Mural's is combining is unique "Asian-Indian cuisine" with offerings from Brisbane’s Nick Pinn of Malt Dining and Gold Coast’s Sridhar Penumechu from Saffron Restaurant.

The trio are saying little about the drinks menu but the focus will be on gin and exclusive American whiskey blends.

Mr Mural and Mr Penumechu are friends.

The chef has been looking to move to Brisbane for some time. He was just waiting for the right opportunity.

“My dream is to share my style in presenting Indian cuisine in a way which is relevant to diners across the world,” Mr Mural told the Brisbane Times.

Mr Penumechu said Brisbane diners were not becoming more and more sophisticated.

“What Chef Mural will bring to the table for locals and international visitors is high quality, world-class dining," Mr Penumechu told the Brisbane Times.

"Brisbane diners will not have seen something like this in Brisbane before, it will be a truly unique dining experience."

“Our new restaurant will take Asian-Indian cuisine to a new level.

"Brisbane's dining scene is continually evolving and we believe now is the right time to open such a restaurant. We feel Brisbane is ready for this style of restaurant.

British-born Mr Pinn said the trio is hoping to create something special.

“I am now looking forward to the next challenge with Brisbane Quarter, where the talents of a great group of people will combine to craft a very unique and exceptional dining and hospitality destination,” Mr Pinn  told the Brisbane Times.
