Electrolux Appetite for Excellence National Finalists and winners of the food safari announced

AUSTRALIA’S BEST HAVE AN APPETITE FOR EXCELLENCE 

The Electrolux Appetite for Excellence 2017 national finalists have been selected and the shortlist reveals the up and coming, fresh, young culinary stars across Australia. These elite young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs have been assessed by a panel made up of Australian hospitality leaders, from venues across the country.

 The young chef and waiter national finalists will be taking part in an all-expenses-paid six-day produce tour through regional Queensland in mid-July. For the first time, Electrolux Appetite for Excellence ran a competition where two could win a spot on the annual tour. The winners have been announced and are Walter Kennard and Emmy O’Neill. They will   meet the passionate producers behind the outstanding quality meat, seafood, fruit and vegetables enjoyed in the country’s best restaurants.

The tour will begin with beef on the Darling Downs where the group will visit Kerwee feedlot where cattle enjoy a stress free environment in a viable eco-system. The state of the art Oakey Abattoir will be the next stop where the finalists will the processing of award winning Oakey Angus Reserve beef. The group will then take part in sausage making with the infamous Adam’s Continental before visiting Rhodavale Pork to experience pasture raised pigs near Gympie. The tour will finish with a visit to Moolloolaba Wharf to visit fishers.

The Electrolux Appetite for Excellence judging panel includes: Peter Gilmore, Luke Mangan, Christine Manfield, Mark Best, Danielle Gjestland, Peter Doyle, Ross Lusted and Nick Hildebrandt and more. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Noosa, Queensland on August 14.
