A $90 million resort for Table Cape

Tasmania's north-west will get a new $90 million luxury clifftop resort.

The development was given unanimous approval by the Waratah-Wynard Council.

Overlooking one of northern Tasmania's most spectacular coastal regions and the Bass Strait, the resort will have a conference centre, day spa and public green on the plateau of Table Cape.

Designed by Sydney-based architecture and interior design studio Silvester Fuller in collaboration with landscape architects Aspect Studio, the resort will include 26 deluxe rooms, 16 premium suites, eight villa suites and a 250-seat restaurant. Add to that a dedicated function centre with a capacity of 150 people, and a smaller function space about half that size.

Waratah-Wynyard Mayor Robby Walsh says the development would transform the north-west region and was the most exciting development the council had ever received.

“This is a real game changer for the whole North-West region with enormous benefits for tourism and the local economy,” Councillor Walsh told the Mercury.

“Significant employment opportunities will be generated throughout the construction phase, which is expected to take up to two years and with 116 full-time equivalent [jobs].

“Post construction there will be more than 80 ongoing positions and it is projected to inject $77.8 million into the local economy over the next 20 years.”

Cr Walsh said he was eagerly anticipating the project to get underway.

“I will be watching the progress with great anticipation of this resort becoming an extraordinary landmark for the region,” he told the Mercury.

Construction is scheduled to start in 2019.

The development will be funded by the Ransley family, who have lived in the area for several generations.

Significantly, council approval for the Table Cape resort came after the council had knocked back a $7 million development proposal which would have seen 21 caravan sites built along a popular strip of Crown Land on the foreshore.
