Darling at the Star gets a Forbes ranking

The Darling

The Darling at The Star has earned international recognition,

It’s been awarded the highest ranking of five-stars in the annual Forbes Travel Guide 2017 Star Awards, putting it right up there with the ritziest hotels in the world.

It’s the first Sydney hotel to receive the prestigious award.

The Forbes award is distinctive.

It’s nothing like the traditional “five star” rankings seen on online travel websites.

Most of these are internal industry ratings so they are not that reliable.

The Forbes awards rank hotels from around the world based on no less than 800 objective standards.

These standards are the most stringent in the hospitality industry.

Forbes has inspectors staying two nights and three days at each hotel.

And they go to extraordinary lengths to test the staff and the premises. Nothing escapes them. They leave subtle fingerprints on bathroom mirrors to see if they are cleaned and leave clothes lying all over the room, and then check to see if staff will collect them, fold them up and put them on the bed. They’ve even been known to question front of house staff with unusual requests.

Five-star ratings are only awarded to hotels with outstanding service and facilities that meet all these standards.

Other Sydney hotels pulled up well in the awards

The Langham Sydney and Park Hyatt received a Four Star rating.

And the InterContinental Sydney, InterContinental Double Bay and Shangri-La were awarded a Recommended rating.

Forbes Travel Guide chief executive Gerard Inzerillo said he was delighted to announce that the Darling was the first Sydney property to get the award.

“Only the best properties in the world earn our coveted Five-Star, Four-Star and Recommended awards, and to be rated in that highest category is the ultimate endorsement of the superb service at The Darling,” Mr Inzerillo told the Daily Telegraph.

The other Australian hotel to get the five star Forbes ranking was Crown Towers Melbourne at the Crown Casino.
