Manly Wharf’s $9 million overhaul

Seagrass Capital is putting Manly Wharf through a $9 million revamp which will see it getting two spectacular rooftop restaurants.

Seagrass, run by property investor Robert Magid, has already drawn up a shortlist of developers who have been invited to tender for the second floor addition that goes on top of the entertainment precinct.

They will add two restaurants measuring 563 square metres and 548 square metres in size with floor to ceiling views with outdoor dining providing south-westerly views across Sydney Harbour

The successful builder will be announced next month.

Seagrass has also invited a hand selected list of restaurateurs to submit expressions of interest. The ones chosen will join entertainment establishments at the precinct including Dave Evans’ Hugo’s Manly, Justin Hemmes’ Papi Chulo and Ben May’s Manly Wharf Hotel.

The development plans for the second storey restaurants, created by JPRA Architects, had been approved by the Manly Independent Assessment Panel on 15 October 2015. All this was in line with the original conditions of consent approved by the Land & Environment Court of NSW on the 19 July 2013.

Magid said it would well and truly establish Manly Wharf’s reputation as a drawcard.

"This development will truly cement Manly Wharf's position as the premier waterfront entertainment destination in Sydney, and indeed the world. We have already had interest from a number of high-profile Australian and international restaurant operators," Mr Magid told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Manly Wharf has gone through so many changes since it was built in 1855 as a passenger terminal.

Back in 2002, it had been transformed from a restricted shopping arcade and games zone into one of Sydney’s key entertainment zones.

Mr Magid said there had been various plans for the site but these had been rejected by the Land and Environment Court. As a result, he will stick to what’s now being offered.
