NSW licenses go digital
There will be less paper work and no need for anything extra in your wallet when people are applying for Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) or Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) card – all they will need will be a smart phone or tablet.
The New South Wales government is breaking new ground for states around Australia with a new all-encompassing digital technology system providing free digital RSA and RCG licences. It’s all been put together through a partnership between Liquor & Gaming and Service NSW.
It means that staff won’t have to bring their cards with them. The cards can be displayed, updated or renewed on their smart phones or tablets via the Service NSW app.
The app is available through Google Play or the iTunes Store.
Minister for Finance, Services and Property Dominic Perrottet said the launch was just the beginning because it paves the way for digital driver licenses by 2019.
“NSW is leading the nation in government technology, and the number one reason is that we are determined to offer the best services to make life easier for the people of NSW,” Mr Perrottet said.
“If you carry a smartphone in your pocket and you’re looking forward to a wallet-free future, digital licences make so much sense – they’re easily accessible, safe and secure, and it’s one less thing to stuff in your wallet.”
“You can renew your licence and update your details with the click of a button, and there’s no need to visit a Service NSW centre or wait for something in the post. It’s all about saving time and making life easier, and these three licences are just the beginning.”
Still, for those who still like the feel of a card or who just aren’t computer savvy, it’s not mandatory.
Digital licences are strictly optional. Physical licence cards will still be available for all licence holders.
