Novotel moves in on Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise

Accor Hotels has taken over the Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise.

The hotel will be rebadged under Accors’ Novotel brand. It will be known simply as Novotel Surfers Paradise.

Accor took over management over the weekend on October 1 and rebranded the hotel straight away.

As a result, the Novotel Surfers Paradise is the 30th Novotel in Australia.

‘It is also AccorHotels’ fourth hotel on the Gold Coast, putting it alongside the Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach, The Sebel Coolangatta and Mercure Resort Gold Coast.

The 31-storey hotel, comprising 409 rooms, a restaurant, bar, along with five conference and meeting rooms, is located 200 metres from the beachfront.

All of this is totally strategic for Accor in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games and comes at a time when Gold Coast airport is reporting an increasing number of passengers.

Gold Coast Airport has recorded 8.7 per cent growth in the year to May 2016.

New services from China, Malaysia, Japan, New Zealand, and Australian ports are driving the growth.

Accor Hotels chief operating officer Simon McGrath said the Gold Coast would now be exposed to a wider audience now that it has been added to the Novotel network.

“The Novotel brand is prominent in countries across Asia and with the prospect of even more direct flights from Asian destinations, the presence of a well-known international brand such as Novotel can contribute to the region’s ability to attract major conferences, events and groups,” Mr McGrath told Australian Business Traveller.

“It is an exciting time to be in the Gold Coast, with major infrastructure projects such as the Light Rail project having such an impact and with the Commonwealth Games just two years away,” McGrath adds.

Accor will now put the hotel through an extensive multi-million dollar renovation project to refresh its rooms and public areas throughout 2017 and 2018.

That will include its restaurant.
