Introducing Victoria’s best restaurants, cafes, chefs and cheap eats: The Age Good Food Guide 2017 awards

Want to try some of Victoria’s best restaurants? Head out of the city. That’s where the big winners if you check the The Age Good Food Guide 2017 Awards.

Birregurra's Brae won Restaurant of the Year. The trophy adds to Brae’s cabinet, being one of a handful of Australian restaurants to make it to the World's 50 Best Restaurants list earlier this year.

And Igni in Geelong gained two hats on its debut.

Indeed, Igni picked up two trophies - Santa Vittoria Regional Restaurant of the Year and Citi Chef of the Year award for co-owner Aaron Turner with his delicious vegetable-driven tasting menu.

Other regional restaurants that did well were Fen in Port Fairy, Stefano's in Mildura, the Healesville Hotel and Patricia's Table in Milawa.

Back in the city, Attica and Minamishima received gongs as top-tier restaurants picking up three hats and Vue de Monde was also back on the list.

Embla in Russell Street was named Best New Restaurant although food pedants might point out its actually a wine bar.
