Eleven Rooftop Bar’s image battle

Eleven Rooftop bar, Brisbane’s hottest new bar where it costs people $2000 a seat has an agenda to become the city’s most exclusive night spot.

So much so that patrons are complaining they can’t get into the Fortitude Valley venue because of their appearance.

A 23 year old, who did not want to be named, told the Courier Mail she entered the place to celebrate a friend’s birthday and was sent straight to the elevator by the bouncer.

No reason was given but the young woman said her friends later told her it was about her appearance. She just didn’t project the right image.

“They said I didn’t ‘fit the image they want to uphold in the place’,” she told the Courier Mail.

So she did what so many do when they want to express their displeasure publically – she took to Facebook.

“In a group of at least eight girls, I was singled out because I wasn’t their version of ‘pretty’,” she wrote in her Facebook post.

“God forbid I’m not a size 10 or my dress showed no cleavage and I had stockings covering my legs!

“A big f*** you to Eleven Rooftop Bar, by the sounds of your reviews this isn’t the first time you’ve done this, but you won’t be seeing me again.”

However, Eleven Rooftop Bar says it had nothing to do with her appearance.

According to general manager Tracey Rayne, security staff asked her to leave because they considered her to be intoxicated.

“With the new, even harsher laws about to come into affect as of July 1st, we are even more aware of our duty of care as a licensed venue,” Rayne told the Courier Mail.

“We will continue to be diligent in this regard.”

The young woman however denied that she was drunk. She said the venue was just using that as an excuse.

This is not an isolated case. Reviews on the venue’s Facebook page include comments from people complaining about its entry policy, claiming they’ve been turned away even when they were stone cold sober.
