Australian Hotel Guide Award winners

The winners of the third annual Gourmet Traveller Australian Hotel Guide Awards have been announced in Sydney and the list is impressive.

The top two awards went to the Como The Treasury in Perth. A rebuild of colonial-era buildings by Perth architect Kerry Hill, it’s an impressive presentation. Occupying the State Buildings dating from the 19th century, the two restaurants and bar sit inside a 48 room contemporary luxury hotel right the heart of Perth’s newly revitalised historical district.

Halcyon House, which can be found at Cabarita Beach on the New South Wales north coast, took out Regional Hotel of the Year and Best Service.

"It's so gratifying to see, three years after launching our guide, that Australia's hotel industry is experiencing such a resurgence. No fewer than 11 of our top 50 hotels are new entries for 2016," Anthea Loucas Bosha, editor in chief of Australian Gourmet Traveller said in a statement.

The Gourmet Traveller review team stayed at all the hotels when they were preparing their reviews. They checked in anonymously. Just to make sure that they would see things as they really were.

The event coincided with the release of the 2016 Gourmet Traveller Australian Hotel Guide, published with the June edition of Gourmet Traveller. It will go on sale on May 26.
