Sydney chef receives prestigious lifetime achievement award

David Thompson, one of Australia’s leading chefs renowned on the international culinary stage has picked up the prestigious Diners Club Lifetime achievement award.
The academy of voters behind the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, due to be announced in Bangkok on February 18, bequeathed the award.
Thompson has an international reputation as one of the world’s leading authorities on Thai Food.
Raised in Sydney, Thompson has been working in London and Bangkok for the last 12 years.
The restaurant he runs for the Como Hotels group in Bangkok, Nahm, has been widely acclaimed. In 2014, the 50 Best list named it Asia’s best restaurant and it is frequently included in the International World’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
Thompson is behind the second (after Singapore) Long Chim restaurant which has recently opened at Perth’s state buildings.
He is also planning to open a Long Chim restaurant in Sydney later this year. The site has been chosen but no one is providing any details.
Other Australians who are expected to get a gong in the Asia’s Best 50 awards include Tetsuya Wakuda who has immortalised Singapore’s acclaimed Waku-Ghin and David Pynt, who also lives in Singapore, cooking at Burnt Ends, much frequented by Aussie expatriates looking for a modern Australian barbecue setting.
