Another hotel, apartment project for quay

Perth property developer Adrian Fini has been tapped to help build another hotel and apartment development at Elizabeth Quay.

Mr Fini’s Fini Group, fresh from an overhaul of the State Buildings, will today be named the preferred developer for two lots in partnership with AAIG Pty Ltd, the group behind the redevelopment of the former Emu Brewery site.

The 6200sqm parcel on the Quay’s western side will be sold to the joint venture for $85 million for a 125-bed hotel, 450-plus apartments and restaurants and bars at the ground level.

It will be on the opposite side of the inlet to the Ritz-Carlton and apartment towers being built by Far East Consortium.

Eight of the quay’s nine commercial lots now have preferred developers, although the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority has yet to secure a deal with Brookfield Multiplex over two lots at the top of the inlet and Chevron has delayed plans for its site by two years.

The design will be decided through an international competition. MRA chief executive Kieran Kinsella said land sales were “on track” to cover about half the quay’s $440 million cost.

Elizabeth quay will open tomorrow night, with organisers bracing for as many as 50,000 visitors — twice the capacity of the waterfront venue.

Police, contractors and MRA staff will monitor numbers.

A laser, light and water show will run five nights a week for three weeks. A computer generated test of the show depicts spinning spheres illuminated by lasers and water fountains. Glenn Turner, from Oracle Liquid, the company behind the show, said about three months of preparation went into the “very very technically involved” production.

“The show basically is just a taste of what sort of entertainment the quay can deliver,” he said.
