Food poisoning outbreak at Brisbane pub
QUEENSLAND Health is investigating an outbreak of food poisoning at a trendy pub in Brisbane.
Twenty diners fell ill after eating a chicken parmigiana from The Flying Cock, a pub in Fortitude Valley.
The chicken used in the Flying Cock’s popular 2-for-1 parmigiana deal last Wednesday is believed to be the source of the problem, as a Brisbane City Council spot inspection has revealed no food safety compliance breaches.
A spokesman for The Flying Cock told The Courier-Mail the food poisoning outbreak was the first of its kind since the bar opened 18 months ago.
“We’ve never encountered anything like this before and in the week leading up to the event nothing had been missed and nothing had changed,” he said.
“Without being able to directly point the finger or throw anyone under the bus while this investigation is ongoing, we are comfortable and council is comfortable we haven’t missed anything and perhaps it is a problem with the supplier.
“The chicken supplier we were using were very reputable and we’ve been using them since we started here but we can’t find anything internally here which indicates there hasn’t been anything happen on our end.”
Public Health Physician Dr James Smith said it is now Queensland Health’s job to determine how 20 diners were left bed ridden with gastrointestinal illness.
“Metro North Public Health Unit is working with the owners of the Flying Cock restaurant in Fortitude Valley after they reported possible food poisoning last week,” he said.
“The Public Health Unit is working closely with local government and the restaurant, but no issues were identified during a food safety inspection.”
