White Ribbon Day charity box stolen from Fairfield cafe counter

A BRAZEN thief walked up to the counter of a Fairfield cafe on the weekend and stole a White Ribbon collection box full of money used to stop violence against women.

Speaking today, on White Ribbon Day, The Place cafe manager Imogene Norfolk said she felt very upset when on Sunday morning, she realised the box containing money raised from selling ribbons and wristbands was gone.

“I felt sad that this had happened on the eve of White Ribbon Day and that someone was so desperate that they had to take money that was going to this important cause,” she said.

White Ribbon is a male-led campaign that works to end men’s violence against women and girls.

Ms Norfolk said she wanted to pass on the message to other cafes with charity collection tins to put the tins in a safe place and keep a look out to prevent similar thefts.

She said she also wanted to encourage locals to come into the cafe and support the White Ribbon Campaign by donating $2 for a ribbon or wristband or $10 for a metal badge.
