Halliday: Australian wine is showing green shoots

Listen: James Halliday explains why he's hopeful that the local wine industry has turned a corner after a very challenging decade.

It's never been a better time for the wine drinkers and restaurant goers of Australia, as the range and quality of local products continue to expand at a dizzying pace. But what about those on the other end of the equation? It's been a very challenging decade for wine producers, as weak demand for Australian wine in key markets saw the value of exports plummet.

It's also a cut-throat period for restaurateurs as customer demand for novelty combines with huge competition to squeeze the margins of many operators. An increased GST could make things doubly difficult for restaurant owners around Australia.

In this episode of Themes and Trends, James Halliday and Andrew McConnell discuss the business end of wine and food.
