Sydney pub charges $22 for a pint of beer
A Sydney pub is charging $22 for a pint, leaving Aussies stunned at the escalating costs of having a drink.
A Bondi Lines' Instagram video shows the purchase, with the caption "this is getting f***ed".
Many social media users blamed the government for the exorbitant fees, with one saying on the post "(It is) not necessarily the pub's fault, (the) cost of buying and selling is ridiculous with the multiple taxes on alcohol."
The consensus is that beer is becoming less affordable during a cost-of-living crisis.
One user said it was greed motivating the prices: "Thank the government’s taxes on booze. Pure greed," they said.
"Australia. The place to be," a third added.
The cost of alcohol increases twice a year and is due to rise again shortly, which will raise prices by a further dollar.
"I can get a pint in Karratha, aka the middle of nowhere for $10," one respondent to the post said.
"F**k the pubs. Support your local Rissole," another added.
"Bought a beer in Japan for $1.90 Aud we are getting robbed," a third wrote.
The pub's location hasn’t been identified, however, it is believed to be on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Still the high prices haven’t stopped too many from drinking with data from The Banyans Healthcare revealing one in ten (11 per cent) Australians don’t keep track of how much alcohol they are consuming and one in five Aussies drink more than ten standard drinks per week.
