Man pleads guilty to murder of SA restaurant worker

A 23-year-old man admitted to murdering a 39-year-old Adelaide restaurant worker in September 2019 at the home of two South Australian government executives.

The man, who cannot be named, faced the South Australian Supreme Court on Monday where he pled guilty to murder.

The court had previously heard that Kim Chau had been stabbed 80 times and was found at her home after her friends reported her missing.

Ms Chau had been living in the home of Lois Boswell and Don Frater, who are deputy chief executives of different SA government departments.

Mr Frater is a senior SA Health executive and Ms Boswell is the chief executive of South Australia's Department of Human Services.

Neither Frater nor Boswell were involved in her death according to SA Police.

A statement was released by Ms Boswell at the time of the incident which said Ms Chau "was a friend who has lived with our family over the last year".

"While we are devastated by these events, there are family members and friends who are primary in our thoughts," she said.

Prosecutors have described the case as complicated and investigators were tasked with checking 1,000 hours of CCTV footage.

The man will next face court in October.
