Man fined for punching Noosa Hotel security guard

A man has been fined $900 after losing his temper and punching a security guard in the face at a Noosa Hotel.

48-year-old Haydn Edward Morriss pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm on Tuesday.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard that the security guard at the Villa Noosa Hotel suffered a small cut, pain and bruising after being punched by Morriss.

The incident happened at about 8pm on July 16.

Morriss was in the hotel’s poker lounge when he was approached by the security guard who requested that he remove his baseball cap.

Morriss refused.

The security guard then told Morriss that if he didn’t remove his cap, he would be asked to leave.

Morriss replied that he would leave after he finished playing his machine.

The guard followed him after he had finished playing and collected his money to make sure he would leave at which point Morriss turned and punched him.

The guard then threw Morriss to the ground, holding him down until he was told to release him by a hotel manager.

Morriss told the court this week that he understood what he had done wrong and was “remorseful for his temper”.

Morriss said he “felt (the security guard) was way too close and pressuring me to leave”.

Morriss was fined $900 and no conviction was recorded.
