Dimmi's founder launches new restaurant payment app

Dimmi founder Stevan Premutico is back in the hospitality business with a new app that allows customers to order and pay at restaurants through their phones.

The new ‘smart menu’ called me&u lets customers order and pay for meals through their phones while sitting at the table.

Using the app, users can set their dietary preferences, look through ratings on each dish and look at the wine pairing suggestions. Once they have made their selections, all they have to do is press “order”.

Backed by big-name investors including Uber Australia co-founder Mike Abbott, former LinkedIn APAC managing director Cliff Rosenberg and ex-Google Australia managing director Jason Pellegrino, the app wants to disrupt the way customers order and pay at restaurants.

“It’s clear [that] Aussies love to eat in restaurants, but the way we order and pay is terribly clunky and antiquated,” Premutico said. “It simply shouldn’t take five minutes to pay a bill! We will fix that.”

Combing the “beauty of Instagram and the convenience of Uber”, me&u was also designed to allow waiters to focus on service.

“Waiters run around tirelessly all night, service lessens, the customer experience drops and upselling doesn’t happen,” Premutico said.

“We want to free up the waiters, improve the customer experience and improve industry profitability. That’s our ambitious goal; a better, more profitable industry.”

More than 500 restaurants in Australia have already signed up with me&u, including Chat Thai, Watsons Bay Hotel and Rockpool Dining Group.
