Perth’s Mosmans Restaurant to be redeveloped

Dome cafe group CEO Nigel Oakey has won approval for the multimillion-dollar redevelopment of Mosmans Restaurant in Perth.

Initially known as Smiths Boatsheds, the Johnson Parade site in Mosman Park has been used for riverside hospitality since 1904. It was an iconic feature of Mosman Bay until the late 1980s until a fire destroyed much of the original physical site.

Approved by Environment Minister Stephen Dawson, the redevelopment will involve demolition of the existing structures and construction of a two-storey building which will include a restaurant-cafe on the lower level and an upper level with a function room and short-stay accommodation units catering for up to 36 people.

Oakey described it as “another remarkable WA story waiting to be told”. “It is a great privilege to now bring about an adaptive re-use of this site, which will herald a new era of people from across the whole community being able to rest, work, play and also stay on this incredible stretch of the Swan River,” he said.
