New owners to-reopen Manly pavilion

The iconic Manly Pavilion restaurant will be re-opening in May.

The Severino family, which had operated the Miramare function centre at Dee Why beach since 1984 but left the waterfront in 2000 to set up 1000-seater Miramare Gardens in Terrey Hills, has big plans for the 1933 Manly Pavilion which went bust years ago, suffering vandalism and left abandoned.

The pavilion has since operated as a construction site and has been completely derelict inside.

The Severino family secured the Roads and Martime Services tender for the venue which had been closed for three years.

They are remodelling it into a new restaurant serving afternoon tea, Italian cuisine and cocktails on the terrace overlooking Manly Cove.

They are also overhauling the downstairs area with plans to turn it into a wedding and corporate function venue.

Being a family business, the whole family will run the venue with manager Paul Severino, brother Lee, as executive chef, and grandad Santo, at the helm.

The business expects people will use public transport to get there as there is little parking. They are also looking at boat moorings.

The family has also had a major coup securing celebrity chef Jason Roberts.

He will work as a consultant chef, providing input for head chef Lee Severino in developing the new menu.

“I’ve worked with Lee, I’ve actually worked with the whole family on and off for 10 years and we’ve had a great relationship,” Roberts told the Daily Telegraph.

“This location and this opportunity has leant itself to great timing, even more so Lee’s background in southern Italian food and my background in classical French cuisine and being conscious of that Mediterranean diet.

“It will be a focus on farm to fork or sea to fork. Plus we need to keep the food simple and shareable.”
