Emergency services responded to reports of a fire on Clifford Street just after 8pm and found the Greengrocer Cafe and Cyclery engulfed by flames.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and a crime scene was established.

Specialist forensic officers will examine the fire-ravaged store on Tuesday to determine how the fire began.

It is believed the fire started at the rear of the premises around the cyclery and kitchen area.

Cafe owner Con Toparis was on his way back from Canberra when his family told him of the fire.

When he arrived, he spoke to police and firefighters but declined comment to the media.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the fire that may assist with their inquiries to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
