Enjoy Six Degrees of a delicious meal at Umina Beach cafe
IT’S a sunny Sunday and we are a bit peckish after finally getting near the bottom of the chores list around the house.
But we want something different from the usual pub or club lunch and we don’t have enough time to travel out of the Woy Woy peninsula as we have a few more chores to do before it’s beer o’clock.
We jump in the car and soon spot the Six Degrees Cafe in the main street of Umina.
As we approach, we see the cafe is packed – normally a good sign – but it usually means it will take a while to be served.
We decided to sit outside and enjoy the cool sea breeze blowing along West St.
Before we knew it we had been given menus and even asked if we wanted to sit inside when a table became available.
We stayed outside and started to peruse the menu – not a huge number of dishes but each sounded so good it was difficult to choose one.
My wife Natasha and daughter Jessica could not go past the chicken satay burger ($14.50) and I was content with ordering the Thai beef salad ($14.50).
The girls also ordered a small chips ($4.50) to share. It wasn’t long before our drinks arrived. My daughter enjoyed a fresh mango smoothie ($6.50) served in a jam jar while I was happy with a San Pellegrino mineral water ($3.50) and my wife stuck with her favourite – a Diet Coke ($3).
With more people streaming into the cafe, we were surprised to see our meals arrived shortly after, and we were not disappointed.
The chicken burgers were huge, with double crumbed chicken breast schnitzels, tomato, cucumber, lettuce and the most amazing thick peanut satay sauce we had ever tasted, served on a Turkish roll. The small chips even came with a creamy aioli dipping sauce.
My salad was another culinary feat with grilled scotch fillet, tomato, cucumber, beans, Spanish onion and plenty of fresh coriander, mint and chilli, topped with crushed peanuts, fried onion and a very tasty house-made dressing.
Our tastebuds were having a party of their own with all these delicious flavours. There was only one problem – we needed bigger stomachs to finish off our meals.
We left very satisfied and are planning another visit very soon.
