Richard Branson tells hospitality professionals: Don’t be afraid of failing

HIGH-FLYING billionaire Richard Branson parachuted into Sydney chef Luke Mangan’s kitchen yesterday to fire up young hospitality professionals about their career paths.

Sir Richard told the group of apprentice chefs and Virgin Australia service crew at Mr Mangan’s Mojo warehouse at Waterloo that hospitality was a tough industry but they should never be afraid of failing.

“The most successful people have fallen over but it’s all about learning from that and not giving up,’’ he said.

Sir Richard, whose personal stake in the Virgin empire is said to be worth $US5 billion ($7.1 billion), urged budding entrepreneurs to use their own personalities to market their businesses even if it meant “making a fool of yourself”.

Mr Mangan, who has created menus for Virgin Australia for five years, invited Sir Richard to speak as part of a series to encourage apprentices to stick with their trade.
