Hungry for a ham-burger?

Eleven restaurants are serving hamburgers for Australian Ham Week.

Don't be surprised to see ham play a starring role on restaurant menus around the country this week.

Australian Pork Limited (APL) is encouraging restaurants to put the ham back in hamburger for Australian Ham Week.

Eleven restaurants have already signed up including Sydney’s Bishop Sessa in Surry Hills, whose take on the “hamburger” will include Aussie ham, cabbage slaw and pineapple relish on a brioche with fries.

Adelaide’s Grace the Establishment in Norwood is also on board with a dish featuring char grilled San Jose ham with bacon, maple and tomato ketchup, kohlrabi and apple remoulade and piccalilli (Indian-style pickles).

Ham Week – which runs until November 16 – is park of an APL initiative to raise awareness about the $10 million worth of imported pork that arrives in Australia each week.

APL said these weekly imports equated to more 2.7 million kilograms or about 52,000 pigs.
