SA bakers rise to the occasion

The bakery is often the heart of small country towns.

And regional bakers from across SA turned out their best pies, pasties, sponges, Gateaus and loaves at this year's South Australian Baking Show, held in Barmera.

The president of the Baking Association of Australia, Stuart Latter says it's important to hold the event in regional areas, so country bakers can get some profile for their businesses.

"A lot of the spotlight is always on metro bakeries, and we realise that a lot of our members are out in the regions,

"So we want to get out into the regions and give them some support."

He says South Australia bakers have always been progressive in their creations, and this year was no different.

Mr Latter says the move towards baking more artesian types of breads is raising the quality of bread baking across Australia.
