Pubs, clubs and bars support 'No Shots'

Efforts to reduce alcohol related violence and anti-social behaviour are continuing in the Great Lakes.

The Great Lakes Liquor Accord recently held its first meeting of the year.

Accord chairman Damien Clements says it was well attended by many licensed premises from the region.

"We've come up with a few things, a few years ago we put in a place a policy called 'No Shots'.

"We found a few people were drinking at venues and then getting close to the end of the night they were having shots, and obviously it was affecting patrons.

"So we got together and we felt that having 'No Shots' would make it a bit easier later in the night," he said.

Mr Clements says they're working closely with police and the local council to bring a consistent message to patrons who become drunk or violent.

"We do have problems with intoxication, we do have problems with violence.

"It's just a matter of addressing these issues and making sure that all the licensed venues in our zone that we are all on the same path and if we do see any signs of these problems in our pubs and clubs that we address the problem right away and then duty of care of trying to get that person home," he said.
