Rick Stein to open third Australian restaurant at Coogee Beach
Rick Stein is expanding his Australian footprint, bringing his signature seafood-focused cuisine to Coogee Beach later this year. Stein and his wife and business partner Sarah Stein will open a new 224-seat restaurant on the ground floor of the upcoming Intercontinental Sydney Coogee Beach hotel, scheduled to launch in November 2025.
“Coogee Beach is yet another stunning coastal location for our Australian restaurant portfolio,” the renowned British chef said in a statement. “Perched by the sea and full of the laid-back charm we’ve come to love so much here. It’s especially meaningful for me as my wife Sar grew up in Sydney, so opening a restaurant in her hometown makes this venture all the more special for us both.”
The restaurant will mark the couple’s third Australian venue, following the success of their coastal dining rooms in Mollymook and Port Stephens. Sarah Stein will lead the venue’s publicity and design direction, overseeing a restaurant, bar, and terrace that mirror the relaxed charm of the location.
The menu will reflect Rick Stein’s long-standing philosophy: showcasing Australian seafood through simple, elegant preparations. Guests can expect local catches including mahi mahi from Nelson Bay, pipis from Port Stephens, mackerel from Ulladulla, and blue swimmer crabs in a Singapore-style chilli sauce. A classic fish and chips with mushy peas will also feature.
Set just steps away from the bustling Coogee Bay Hotel, the new addition will join a competitive eastern beaches dining scene, which includes nearby fine diner Mimi’s.
