Neil Perry’s Margaret ranked second best steakhouse in the world
Neil Perry has achieved another milestone, with his Double Bay restaurant Margaret named the second-best steak restaurant globally in the prestigious World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants list.
The international ranking, revered by steak enthusiasts and industry insiders, evaluates over 900 restaurants worldwide. This year’s list has placed Margaret just behind Parrilla Don Julio in Buenos Aires, which retained its number one spot for the third consecutive year.
The recognition marks a significant rise for Perry’s establishment, which climbed from third place in last year’s list.
“For our family-run restaurant to receive this recognition is an incredible honour,” Perry said. “It’s a testament to the passion we’ve poured into our meat program — from working with exceptional producers like Blackmore wagyu and CopperTree Farms to ensuring every cut served is perfectly dry-aged and cooked.
“It’s also fantastic to see 17 Australian restaurants featured on the list this year, a reflection of the outstanding quality of our beef producers.”
Australia was strongly represented in the rankings, with 17 local venues making the top 101—ten of which are located in New South Wales. Perry’s former flagship, Rockpool, came in at number 12, slipping from eighth position last year. Sydney newcomer The International debuted strongly at number 14, while Firedoor also made a notable entrance at number 16.
Other Australian entries include Porteno (No. 20), The Gidley (No. 32), and Middle Eastern-inspired Aalia (No. 36). Venues such as Shell House, The Cut Bar and Grill, 20 Chapel, and Bistecca also secured spots within the top 100, although both The Gidley and Bistecca saw a drop in their rankings compared to the previous year.
At Margaret, Perry’s celebrated steaks range from a 220g CopperTree 60-month Friesian fillet with red curry butter and grilled shallots, priced at $69, to the premium $370 David Blackmore pasture-fed Rhone bone-in sirloin.
